(More pics later!)
This morning, we woke up around 7am, packed up our gear and headed down to the restaurant on the ferry for breakfast. The ferry docked at 9am and we both held our breath as Lynn fired up his trike when it was our turn to unload. Given that it had failed to start the past 2 mornings, we were half expecting to have to do a frantic boost which, of course, would hold everyone up...
BUT - thankfully, it fired up right away. We decided to not take any more chances with it and headed into Sydney to the Harley dealership and they were able to get us in right away and put a new battery in. From there, we headed up to our friend Sarah Beck’s place on the Cabot Trail. Sarah is an amazingly talented potter and artist who is originally from Williams Lake so we’ve known her and her family for many years. She moved out here a number of years ago and has become a well recognized and established artist in this area. Her shop, Wildfire Pottery, is right on the Cabot Trail and is one of a string of artistan shops on this stretch of the Trail.
We turned up at her shop around 1pm and visited there a bit and then she brought us back to her new home which is right on the waterfront, just down the road. The view is spectacular. She and her partner, Yves, are still putting the finishing touches on this lovely home - next week, they’re starting to build the deck. It’s a little slice of heaven here and their home is filled with lots of original art (some of Sarah’s and some of others) and Sarah’s eclectic tastes and sense of humour are identifiable throughout. My favorite is the lemur wallpaper in the hallway! Who wouldn’t absolutely LOVE some lemur wallpaper?!
Sarah went back to work at her shop and Lynn and I did some laundry and ran up to the Clucking Hen for a bowl of soup. The Clucking Hen happens to be the only cafe that’s open right now so we knew we’d be bringing Sarah back here for dinner tonight. Lynn couldn’t decide on dessert at lunch so he opted to have the lemon meringue pie but asked them to save him a piece of blueberry pie for dessert when we returned for dinner...
We came back to Sarah’s house and hung out for awhile, waiting for laundry, so we both took a turn on her AMAZING massage chair. OMG. I was on happiness overload today - we got to hang out in this lovely house with a Zillion Dollar view, get caught up on our laundry and we had access to a massage chair. All that and the lemur wallpaper... what more could one ask for??
We met Sarah back at the Clucking Hen at 6pm and I had quite possibly the BEST lobster Mac and Cheese on the planet. Seriously. HUGE chunks of lobster in a bacon, smoky cheese (Gouda perhaps?) sauce... GAH!!
Afterwards, we came back and had some more wine and chatted until late, catching up on Sarah’s life and sharing stories of home with her. It was SO GREAT to be able to spend time with her and we were only disappointed by the fact that Yves is currently in Quebec so we weren’t able to see him as well. Next time!
I would highly recommend you check out Sarah’s website: www.wildfirepottery.ca (I’ll make a hyperlink when I get home and am not using my cel phone for this blog). She also sells on Etsy. Yes, she ships! :)
